Phil Mickelson Bio
Philip Alfred Mickelson, also known as Lefty or Phil Mickelson, is an American professional golfer who was one of the most powerful players on the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA) Tour in the 1990s and early 2000s. He was born in San Diego, California, on June 16, 1970.
Early Life and Career

Mickelson began playing golf at a very young age, striking his first balls at the age of barely 18 months. The right-handed Phil adopted the left-handed swing after seeing his father play, which helped him grasp the fundamentals of the game and earned him the moniker "Lefty."
As a young golfer, he won numerous tournaments in the San Diego area including unparalleled three consecutive national Junior Player of the Year accolades (1986, 1987, and 1988). He was given a full scholarship to Arizona State University (ASU) because of his golf skills, and there he became one of the greatest American amateur golfers of all time. Throughout Mickelson's four years at ASU, he was a first-team All-American and won three championships.
He won the U.S. Amateur Championship in 1990, and the Northern Telecom Open, his first PGA Tour competition the following year, becoming the fourth amateur to achieve the feat.

Phil Mickelson Masters

In 2004, when he defeated Ernie Els by a single shot to win the Masters, Phil made a big breakthrough. He finished in the top six in the remaining 2004 majors as a result of his strong play throughout the rest of the season.

He struggled after that and didn't win another PGA Tour competition until 2018.
Phil Mickelson US Open - Missing Major

Phil won the Pebble Beach Pro-Am the following year, giving him his 45th PGA championship overall. He participated in the Ryder Cup throughout this time and was a part of the winning teams in 1999, 2008, and 2016.
The golfer won the PGA Championship in 2021, his first tour triumph in more than two years, to earn his sixth major championship of his career. He became, at the age of 50, the oldest major tournament winner in the history of PGA. Despite his success, Phil Mickelson US Open remains a dream because he is yet to win it.
Phil Mickelson Controversy

Early in 2022, Mickelson sparked debate by endorsing LIV Golf Investments, a Saudi-backed organization that was creating a tour with multimillion-dollar payouts for PGA players. LIV, according to some, was a Saudi government effort to "sportswash" its human rights abuses.
While Mickelson thought the Saudis were guilty of violating human rights, he disclosed to a reporter that he anticipated the new tour would bring about reforms at the PGA, which he alleged to have "uncouth greed." Mickelson issued an apology for his "reckless" remarks in the wake of the outcry and withdrew from a number of PGA competitions, including the PGA Championship.
Phil Mickelson Exemption
The PGA issued a warning to players that they would be excluded from PGA Tour-sanctioned events if they joined LIV in the meantime. Following allegations that he had sought out players for the new endeavor, PGA suspended Mickelson for two months starting in March 2022; the punishment was then prolonged in the following months.
Phil formally inked a contract with LIV in June, and later that month he participated in the tour's debut contest. The PGA disqualified the players, including Mickelson, from participating in its competitions just before it started.
Mickelson and other suspended golfers sued the PGA for antitrust violations in August 2022. But Mickelson backed out of the lawsuit once LIV joined it believing he is well-represented by LIV.
